About this Event
Andrew Meyer is a trombonist, composer, and educator based in Chicago. As a St. Louis native, he began his musical studies with Ray Charles band alumnus Wayne Coniglio, building a strong foundation in jazz trombone, composition, and arranging. He earned his master’s degree from DePaul University, where he studied with Tom Matta, Dana Hall, Tim Coffman, Chad McCullough, and Scott Burns. Throughout his educational career, he performed with acclaimed artists including Nicholas Payton, Jimmy Greene, Christian McBride, Brandee Younger, Robin Eubanks, Sean Jones, and Randy Brecker—formative experiences that continue to influence both his musical voice and educational approach. Since completing his graduate work, Andrew has remained an active presence in Chicago’s vibrant jazz community. He has performed with the Ira Sullivan Quintet, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Tom Garling Jazz Orchestra, Metropolitan Jazz Octet featuring Dee Alexander, and guitarist Guy King. As a bandleader, he leads two ensembles: the Andrew Meyer Quintet, which performs his original music, and Interlace Sextet, a collaborative group co-led with tenor saxophonist Andy Schlinder that draws inspiration from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. This weekend, Andrew will be performing music from his debut album Silver Linings which features original compositions written during the 2020 Pandemic. These compositions are a culmination of Andrew’s creativity, growth and musical journey of self-discovery during a time of uncertainty. This music was Andrew’s Silver Lining in the face of adversity.
