About this Event
Demetruest hails from the southside of Chicago and comes from a lively and musical family - he is a singer, songwriter, rapper, vocal producer, and visual artist crafting magical, future-classic soundscapes for those who’ve ever felt unseen. Rooted in soul, R&B;, and experimental textures, their music speaks to the outsider — the queer kid in the back row, the overachiever too afraid to ask for help, the dreamer who learned to disappear. For Demetruest, music isn’t just a sound — it’s a portal. Each layered harmony, synth pad, or bassline becomes a tool for remembering their younger self and helping others do the same. Their 2024 EP They All Kept Moving While I Stood Still (TAKMWISS), is a magical invitation to slow down in a world that glorifies constant motion and productivity. The project’s soulful soundscapes — recorded entirely to tape using a Roland CR-8000 — channel the warm textures and intentionality of Charles Stepney and Stevie Wonder, bringing a vintage yet timeless feel to reflections on burnout, healing, and self-preservation. Still performing and promoting TAKMWISS, Demetruest is also building toward the next chapter: While I Stood Still (2026), a follow-up EP that turns inward with even more intimacy, asking what parts of us survive the stillness — and how we carry them forward. Demetruest has collaborated with artists like Noname, Jamila Woods, and Akenya, while producing and vocal directing for a range of indie and major-label talent. But at the center is always the mission: to make music that holds space for the misunderstood, the sensitive, and the searching.
